Marsha Harper

Marsha Harper | Head Coach

Marsha Harper recently completed her fifth season at American University. During the 2024 campaign, the Eagles entered Patriot League play with the highest win percentage since 1996. Over her tenure, five student-athletes have been  awarded All-Patriot League Honors (Tate Jordan, Asia Horne, Izzy Kadzban, Natalie Oliver, and Lailah Stewart).  

Harper is the seventh head coach in women's soccer history at AU and joined the athletics department in December 2019. Harper joined the Eagles after two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Massachusetts, during which  time the Minutewomen went 21-12-4. 

Harper was a member of the University of Florida women's soccer team for three seasons before transferring to USF in 2011. She served as captain for the Bulls during the 2013 season. The collegiate defender earned her bachelor’s  degree in applied science in 2012 and her master’s degree in exercise science at USF in 2014.

Katie Greenberg | Associate Head Coach & Camp Coordinator 

Katie Greenberg

Katie Greenberg recently completed her fifth season at American in the fall of 2024. In her role at AU, she oversees the defensive unit, as well as goalkeepers and camps.  

Greenberg joined Coach Harper’s staff in March 2020 and brings thirteen seasons of Division I coaching experience, including the five at Purdue University and three at Illinois State University.As a player at Ohio State University, Greenberg helped lead the Buckeyes to a share of the Big Ten title in 2010 and an appearance in the national semifinals at the NCAA College Cup.

Matt Freibaum | Assistant Coach & Recruiting Coordinator Matt Freibaum

Matt Freibaum recently completed his fourth season with American University women's soccer in 2024. He joins the staff after spending the previous two seasons at Wofford. In his role at AU, he is in charge of the attacking unit. 

Freibaum has coached three All-Patriot League selections, Tate Jordan, Izzy Kadzban, and Lailah Stewart. He helped Jordan elevate her game as a senior as she finished with five goals and three assists for 13 points. In his second  season, junior midfielder Izzy Kadzban was awarded third team All-Patriot League after she finished top-10 in the Patriot League in goals (4), game-winning goals (2), and points (7). In the 2024 season, sophomore Lailah Stewart led  the Eagles with five goals and five assists for 15 total points this season. She tied for ninth in the PL in goals scored, and tied for sixth in both assists and total points 

In his playing days, Freibaum was a three-year starter at York College. He also spent his first two collegiate seasons at Virginia Common wealth University.
